KNY Tarot

Hello! We are currently planning a Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba tarot deck based on the theme of mythologies from around the world. Our goal is to create a full tarot deck composed of 78 unique illustrations featuring the characters from the series, centred around the card’s symbolism and using the theme as inspiration.

We have plans to tentatively include 26 - 39 artists. The mythology and characters for each card will be assigned to approved artists as a central theme to their illustrations.

FAQ

Is this a for profit project?

The funds of this project will be used to initially cover production costs and then to compensate artists with their own copies of the tarot deck and merchandise. Remaining funds will be split between the artists and the mods.

If profits come to less than $20 per artist then you will be given the option to keep your share or to give it to a charity which will be chosen together by the final contributing team. Profits will be calculated and artists paid after leftover sales are finished - approximately October/November 2021.

All artists retain the rights to their artwork. You may reprint your own artwork for conventions, post the full artwork publicly, etc. after the project has concluded.

Is this project SFW/NSFW?

We won’t be featuring anything sexual, but will permit small amounts of blood/gore depending on the character/card/myth.

Will this project contain manga spoilers?

We will allow characters from the manage to appear, but we won’t allow major spoilers like a characters death.

Can I submit art that I’ve drawn prior to this zine?

No. All artwork must be new and exclusive to this zine.

How many cards will I have to draw?

All featured artists will be expected to illustrate at least 2 cards. Some artists may be able to illustrate 3 different cards.

What characters can I draw?

Any and all that appear within the anime or manga series of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba. This can be members of the demon slayers corps, demons, and other minor characters!

We want to include as many characters as possible so to avoid repetitions, we’ll be placing a limit on characters appearing a maximum of twice.

What kind of mythologies can I draw?

You’ll be allowed to illustrate myths from all over the world, from the east to the west! Stories of monsters like Ghouls from Arabian mythology, and tales of gods like Izanagi and Izanami from Japanese mythology.

Can I choose what to draw?

During applications you will be asked to claim at least 2 cards that you would be interested in illustrating.

Upon acceptance you will be assigned your cards. You will have time to research the associated characters and myths you would like with your assigned cards. Between January 1st and January 8th you will have to give at least 1 idea - though we highly suggest providing 2 or more - about the characters that you want to illustrate, and what mythologies you want to take inspiration from.

We’ll try to assign you the character and/or myth that you have shown interest in but please be aware that we can not guarantee that the idea you provided is the one you’ll be assigbed with. That is why we heavily suggest to include more than 1 idea.

Can I draw the same mythology as another participant? I’m currently having trouble with my assigned myth/character, can I change it?

No. Your mythology will be specifically assigned to you, but we will try our best to accommodate your choices.

Once accepted, if you find that you are struggling with your assigned characters and/or mythologies then please just try to contact a mod in a timely manner. We’ll try to help and resolve the issue.
